Anna Tueller was my college roommate and a good friend at BYU. She is a person of great introspection and spiritual depth. Although I am now a devout Catholic, I appreciate her thoughtful comments on the topic of fasting and her willingness to open up her own life and introspection to public view. This was a timely article when it was first published, and continues to be relevant to the lives of many women in the LDS Church as it sees new light here.

I'm divorced.

"The women seemed to look at me suspiciously, and the men looked right through me."

So...so ... true.

I agree wholeheartedly that the Spirit helps to testify of error as strongly as truth--and that testimony of truth can often prick the heart of someone in error, as it apparently did the sister in this story. A very powerful article. But now after reading it, I can't help but want a followup since this is over 20 years old. Did it change in her ward significantly over a year? Two years? Five?

Wow, that was way more interesting and grittier than I thought it would be from the title. (I'm not one who is very inspired by fasting.) Thanks for posting this, Emily!
