Catholic/Mormon Dialogue on Women’s Ordination

FYI for those of you in Southern California. This looks like it will be a fascinating evening. (This announcement is copied from the blog Feminism and Religion.)

The Catholic/Mormon Dialogue on Women’s Ordination at Claremont Graduate University will take place Wednesday, September 19, 2012.  It is an incredibly relevant topic today and particularly interesting with a Mormon/Catholic presidential ticket before us.

It makes sense to bring Catholics and Mormons together to dialogue about this issue.  Women’s ordination in both Churches is considered a taboo topic.  Certainly the women who will stand publicly to address this issue and share their passion and conviction for the need to ordain women are courageous and committed to the recognition of the full humanity of every woman and every man.

The panelists for this event include Karen Torjesen (author of When Women Were Priests),Victoria Rue (Roman Catholic Woman Priest, San Jose State University), Lorie Winder(Mormon Women’s Forum Quarterly), Margaret Toscano (University of Utah), Mary Ellen Robertson (Sunstone Education Foundation), Christine Haider-Winnet (Women’s Ordination Conference, Pacific School of Religion), Jennifer O’Malley (Roman Catholic Woman Deacon), and Gina Messina-Dysert (Claremont Graduate University) will preside.

While the speakers are focused on the need to ordain women, the event is meant to create a dialogue about the topic and all are welcomed to share their perspectives.  Following the panel discussion there will be a round table dialogue where all voices will be heard.

A reception will be hosted at 6pm in the Board of Visitors Room in Harper Hall and the event will immediately follow at 7pm.  This event is free and open to the public.  For more information, please call: 909-607-8085.
