Exponent II’s Annual Fall Retreat

Come join Exponent II board, staff and bloggers for our annual retreat in New Hampshire, September 14-16th, 2012.

Each retreat is designed to provide a warm environment for open, honest sharing of life experiences, issues, beliefs, and ideas through workshop presentations and, of course, through informal interactions of participants.

This retreat’s keynote speaker will be Claudia Bushman, the founding editor of Exponent II.

Claudia Lauper Bushman has been at the forefront of Mormon women’s history since the 1970′s. Claudia was a founding mother and first editor of Exponent II in 1974, and two years later she edited Mormon Sisters, nine essays on early Mormon pioneer women (recently reprinted). A graduate of Wellesley College, she completed a Ph.D. in American Studies at Boston University. She has taught at Brigham Young University, Boston University, the University of Delaware, Claremont Graduate University, and Columbia University, and she has nurtured young Mormon scholars at the Joseph Fielding Smith Institute for Church History.

Claudia has written many books on women, Mormonism and religion in America, including Contemporary Mormonism: Latter-day Saints in Modern America. Active in the civic life of each city where she has lived and taught, she and her husband, the historian Richard Bushman, are the parents of six children.

We welcome women to the retreat who are familiar with our publication and are committed to holding an all-women’s retreat. Please leave your husbands, pets, and children at home—with the exception of non-creeping or -crawling nursing infants.  If you choose to bring an infant, please be sure that your baby isn’t disturbing the other retreating women’s experience. To get the most out of the retreat, please plan to stay the entire weekend—from our introductions on Friday night to the closing meeting Sunday afternoon.

We are now accepting reservations for the retreat. Space is limited, so please reserve your spot ASAP.

The deadline for registering is AUGUST 20, 2012

or when we reach our maximum registration number of 60, whichever comes first, so register early!  If you have any general questions regarding the retreat, please email retreatATexponentiiDOTorg.

We look forward to having you join us for a weekend of enjoying nature, making new friends, becoming reacquainted with old friends, and engaging in stimulating dialogue.

The Location: The retreat will be held at the Barbara C. Harris Center located on 326 wooded acres on the shores of Otter Lake in Greenfield, New Hampshire.  The camp is about a 1 ½ to 2 hour drive from Boston, MA. For information about the location, check out the conference center’s website at: http://www.bchcenter.org/index.html.
