Oh What Do You Do in the Summertime?

CIMG0477Memorial Day is behind us, and summer is here (or nearly here). For many people summer means a change of pace.  Maybe you’ll take a vacation, maybe you’re home with your school-aged kids, maybe you get to do more in the outdoors.  Maybe you have traditions, like a summer reading list or a certain cake you’ll make for the 4th of July, or going to visit Grandma & Grandpa.

My family invested in camping gear last year so we’re building a tradition of car camping around Wisconsin lakes in the summer.  I’m looking forward to taking my kids to the beach, eating more berries, melons, and salads, and working on my list of projects.

What do you look forward to this summer?  What summer traditions do you love?

I love watermelon and berries too. And picnics. And night bike rides. And swimming.

Summer means I can sit on my patio with a cool drink, my cross-stitching and watching people go by – so relaxing. Also, love to travel around to local places to buy locally grown fruit and vegetables or pick my own – yum!

Peppermint iced tea — I can go through two quarts of that stuff in a day. Our summer farm share, which is full of greens and cucumbers and peppers and melons. There’s an annual family reunion, which my husband and children attend while I stay home to have the Best Vacation Ever. And there are neighborhood splash parks that my kids and I love.

Every year, I try lots of popsicle recipes. I still haven’t found one I love, but I do love trying!

Family reunions! I love getting together with my family and with my wife’s family. My sisters are some of the most wonderful people I know, and my in-laws on both sides have been really good to me too. That’s to say nothing of adorable nieces and nephews (and their adorable kids–my wife is the youngest in a big family, so on her side, I’m a great uncle!)

You all are inspiring me to figure out fun summer rituals and pastimes!

We don’t do much, but we do head to the pool a lot. I also want to start taking my kids on day hikes so they will appreciate nature more.
