  • And because it was an interesting article . . . Deborah Tannen in the NY Times: In the face of public groping and sexual harrassment, Greek women tend to fight back: “Whatever the reasons for them, the different ways of responding to public molestation led to different emotional reactions. 1. Great job Deborah. i’ve enjoyed every one of these links.

I found the last link about sexual harassment very interesting. I had a very similar experience in the Paris subway. Wish I had been more like the Greek women.

  2. Sorry, Caroline, this is tangential, but the public-transport-sexual-harassment thing brought back vivid memories of my mission in southern Italy. (We called them the bus molesters.) The first time I was grabbed on the bus, I was really traumatized. Over time I got a lot more assertive in smacking hands away and telling men off if necessary. I realize it’s a calculated risk, but I found that without exception, they backed down, even apologized. I think I had to consciously decide to get over some of my nice-Mormon-girl training and learn to stand up for myself.

Why Bishop Waddell’s 60 Minutes Response Felt So Wrong

Does Jesus really want us to be fabulously wealthy, with beautiful stained glass windows in our temple, gorgeous artwork and enormous stockpiles of cash invested and growing as large as humanly possible? Or did Jesus teach those who follow his teachings to forsake our riches, give everything we have to the poor, and follow him? Which direction are we headed right now?
