Wheat & Tares blogger, Kristine A, discusses liberation theology in the context of Mormonism in her post, “The Hereafter is a Hustle.”
I now believe that living the Gospel of Jesus Christ requires me to advocate on behalf of the oppressed and afflicted – I view correcting injustice as God’s work. Yes, God will enact justice in the hereafter, but he also wants us to work toward it in this life.
Micah 6:8 – “He has told you, O [wo]man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
Or as “St.” John of the Cross said: “In the evening [of life] we shall be examined on love.”
Jesus gave us a “new” commandment, that we love one another as He loved us. How can we NOT correct injustice when it is in our power to do so?

I am shocked to see the value of “advocacy” challenged in the comments on the OP @ Wheat and Tares. Is Jesus not our advocate with the Father? What work do we have to do here on earth, today, now, that is not characterized as “trying to be like Jesus?”
